NLMK Pennsylvania History
1899 – 1992: the history of the plant in Farrell, Pennsylvania dates back to 1899. Sharon Steel Corporation owned the plant for almost the entire twentieth century until its shutdown in 1992. Throughout its history, Sharon Steel Corporation ran blast furnaces, basic oxygen and electric furnace melt shops, a blooming mill, hot rolling and pickling, cold rolling and annealing as well as galvanizing operations, making a wide variety of products in sheet and strip form.
1995 – 1999: Caparo Steel Company restarted the steelmaking and rolling operations in Farrell and operated the plant until 1999.
1999 – 2007: Duferco Group acquired the plant in Farrell and started operating it as a slab conversion mill.
2007 – 2011: NLMK Group entered into a jointly owned venture with Duferco.
2011 – currently: NLMK entered into a full ownership of the operations in Farrell.
Sharon Coating History
1995 – 2007: Winner Steel, the predecessor of Sharon Coating, started operations in 1995 in a section of the former Westinghouse Electric Corporation site in Sharon, Pennsylvania. At one time, Winner Steel was one of the largest producers of hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed steel in the country, running three galvanizing lines.
2007 – 2011: NLMK Group and Duferco Group acquired the galvanizing facility as a joint venture.
2011 – currently: NLMK became the sole owner of the operations in Sharon.
