NLMK Pennsylvania Presents at Young Engineers’ Night Hosted by AIST Northeastern Ohio Member Chapter
AIST is the Association for Iron & Steel Technology with 17,500 members from more than 70 countries. AIST Member Chapters meet locally to foster the exchange of ideas and provide networking opportunities among peers. The Northeastern Ohio Member Chapter includes portions of Northeastern Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania.
Bill Katko, Operational Efficiency Engineer at NLMK Pennsylvania, was one of the four presenting speakers at a Young Engineers’ Night hosted by the AIST Northeastern Ohio Member Chapter on April 9th, 2019.
In his presentation, Katko introduced the NLMK Production System that utilized across the NLMK Group facilities and provided a brief overview of the system’s tools and its approach to problem solving. Katko’s presentation featured an ongoing operational efficiency project at the Hot Strip Mill at NLMK Pennsylvania which targets the optimization of the grease and lubrication consumption during the rolling process. The presentation highlighted how a cross-functional team was established to apply A3 methodology, (a root-cause analysis tool, key to the NLMK Production System) to achieve the intended results.
This project is one of the many examples of the application of the NLMK Production System whose purpose lies in increasing operational efficiency. Increased operational efficiency is an essential part of NLMK Group’s long-term strategy — Strategy 2022.
